Local Hokitika Information

Hokitika is gateway to the South Westland World Heritage Park.  Nestled between the Tasman Sea and Southern Alps, Hokitika is a major source of pounamu (greenstone), a precious stone used in traditional Maori carving.

In March Hokitika also hosts the famous Wildfoods Festival. Described as an “extravaganza of gourmet bushtucker”, this festival showcases the best, and often most novel, regional West Coast food.
